8 days 7 nights of some of the most beautiful and baron landscape on this planet. The trip starts off with a drive to Sutherland, spending the night in the Northern Cape – best lamb in the country. Day two is a long drive to Oudshoorn to see the amazing town with all its attractions. Day three is then to the magical Storms river mouth, on the beach. Day four we take a drive up to Addo Elephant park for one of South Africa’s prime nature reserves. Day five we take a cruise down to Keurbooms (just outside Plettenberg Bay) to stay in log cabins on the rivers edge. Day six is down to Agulhas, the southern tip of Africa and then back home. This trip is a trip that will take you where tourists rarely go, this trip is done in the ATV as it can not be done otherwise.
The trip to Sutherland includes a drive up the Ouberg Pass, a gravel pass that is as beautiful as it is dangerous (if you are not in a 4 * 4). The night in Sutherland is extraordinary, Sutherland is the home of SALT (South African Large Telescope) as it is the best place to see the stars in the southern hemisphere.
The trip to Oudshoorn is also quite spectacular, and this time going up the Swartberg pass and that is another gravel pass with rock formations that are hard to understand. Once in Oudshoorn, we will go to the Cango Caves and also swim with Crocodiles, hold lion and cheetah cubs and more at Cango game farm. Oudshoorn is the Ostrich capital of the world.
Storms River Mouth
To many people, this is the single most beautiful place in South Africa. Cliffs, Sea, River. with dolphins surfing the waves, The highest bungee jump in the world, zip lining through the forest and more. Quite a unique place and one of surreal beauty.
Addo Elephant Park
Addo is one of South Africa’s larger Game reserves. Being 1,640 km² it is larger than Greater London and has Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and all the gazelle that can be found in South Africa. Depending on time and availabitity, we could even spend the night in tents in the game park protected by the natural bush and thorn trees.
Plettenberg bay (Keurbooms River)
Plett is in the heart of the Garden Route and it lives up to its name, we will be staying here just to get closer to Cape Town but it is well worth the stay. Spending the night in log cabins on the rivers edge, just outside Plettenberg Bay.
The southern tip of Africa is an old fishing village that is worth a visit. We will be staying in the beach village of Arniston, with its amazing dunes and sea caves. This is a sleepy hollow that is perfect for the relaxing after a “HARD” road trip.
