Dec 27: Day 3 of the series but game 1 for me. We awoke to a beautiful day, crystal blue skies but WINDY!! Today’s match would be played at Durbanville between Pole-2-Pole (P2P) of South Africa and Duetsche Baseball Academy (DBA) of Germany. Due to drought conditions in Capetown, the grass at the field is pretty brown. Doesn’t matter, what a fabulous sight for me.
We played here last year so it was like a homecoming for me! The game turned out to be a tremendous game. The P2P team jumped out to an early lead but the DBA team came roaring back. By the 6th inning, the score was P2P – 5, DBA – 12. As far as most were concerned, the game was over as we were only playing 7 innings. BUT, someone forgot to tell the kids from P2P. They put on their rally caps and scored 7 hard earned runs to tie it up at 12. Talk about a comeback. On to the 8th inning.
The P2P team posted 1 more run in the 8th to win the game! An EPIC comeback. Bob had the pleasure of calling the plate and Geno was on the bases. The umpires wore the blue camo shirts. The game was played under BLUE skies, the temps in the 80’s. The series has P2P leading the series 2 games to 1.
The DBA players spent the night with host families. A team from the USA will be arriving in a couple of days.
