From Home Plate Day 2 – Devonshire Rovers – Umpire Robert Slabinski

Dec 28: We woke up to a magnificent morning and are ready to play 2 games today. First game was between Eden Baseball Academy vs Pole-2-Pole II. We saw a tight game til the last inning, when Pole-2-Pole II opened up and won the game 22 – 9.

Both teams played hard and had much fun. We had Geno on the plate, who did an outstanding job, Mark at first and Bob at third. In the nightcap, it was Pole-2-Pole vs The German Baseball Academy. Actually, these same 2 teams will meet 9 times total in a head to head series.

Last night the ball went the way of the Germany team, today, it was all Pole-2-Pole. Final score was 28 – 12. The bats for the South African team really came alive. We had Albert on the plate, Denver at first and once again, Bob at third. This was Bob’s third straight game.

The field was very nice, we had music, announcers and a snack bar serving up that magnificent South African sausage. The attendance was about 103 people, a nice crowd.
Fun Fact: I am still looking for a baboon. We see signs on the road, at the campground, but none have made a guest appearance. We have seen the German team sleeping under the stars for the past 2 nights.
